It's Been A While!

I cannot believe how long it has been since I have posted son 'my living with ms' blog! Time really does fly, and flies must faster as 30 years-old approaches! Which, that will be this coming February 24th! I am sort-of hoping for a celebration with some family and friends, but not sure what will happen.

The multiple sclerosis has been a HUGE MONSTER/MESS for me, which began the end of August (after my bf broke up with me)when I was hospitalized for a few days. I got better, almost to my baseline with MS. I did typically what I did daily and then soon after I moved in with my bf who shortly became my fiance' I had another flare and stayed in the hospital a few days. This was only one week before our wedding!! My legs did get better, but the pain from the flare was horrible! The left side of my face, neck, shoulder, and arm was messed up from pain and weakness :(

I did move in with mother since my ms is getting worse, for the extra help since I cannot do much. This was never what I planned in life and when I think about it, all of the hurts so much emotionally :'(

The day after I was released from the hospital, I went to the pain clinic to get my pain under control. My pain medications was increased and so was Lyrica. Since these adjustments, I have felt better regarding the pain. I although have fallen a few times, memory is fading, breathing problems increased, increased weakness in legs/arms, and I'm sure that I'm forgetting to add something here! Hehe

December 18th Chad Case and I were married here at home with a Christmas theme and it was beautiful. Well, except for me! I was puffy from all the steroids!!

Wonderful Wednesday!

Today has went well and I'm grateful for this day. Yesterday, well it was rough on me. I did not have much energy but decided to go to Meridian anyway to meet Mother for dinner. Afterwards, I regretted it. Three percocet later, I finally felt a little relief from the horrible intensity of the pain. I was fine before going, so it must have been the entire trip that contributed to all of the pain.

This morning I woke up feeling really good, which I was surprised and thankful. I doubted that another day of the pain if I could have tolerated it, but then again what else is there for me to do?

David has been very helpful to me as he usually is and we have really bonded lately. Sometimes the MS causes me to want to be isolated at times, but I have decided once again not to keep me down with depression of it at times, which does get to me.

Lousy Tuesday :(

STOP PAIN!
I am grateful for pain medication today, even though it makes me drowsy,
but feeling that way is a little better than feeling completely lousy.
I am tired of feeling pain today, wishing it would just go away,
and leave me alone so I can make good use of this day.

The past few days have been very painful for me. I am busy maintaining the home the best I can, making sure that David does his homework even though I am too sick to check it for him. Also, I am writing my memoir and writing about 1,000 words a day. I feel like my memoir is going good, but I would do better if the back and leg pain would ease up a little for me to stay awake better. Praying for a restful night, what is left, and a better tomorrow.

How I Deal With MS and Why I Write! (Detailed Biography)

Biography

K. A. Taylor also known as Katrina Ann Taylor was born on February 24, 1981 in Meridian, MS to David and Shirley Taylor. Taylor was raised in a small nearby town as an only child. At the age of 8, Taylor began piano lessons, the later dance and gymnastics at Newton County Dance and Gymnastics where Taylor continued lessons until the age of 15. Taylor has won numerous awards in all three areas and had thoughts of attending a school in PA for Arts.

At the age of 18 Taylor lost her father to a stroke on Christmas Day 1999 before the family had completely unwrapped all of the gifts to each other. Soon after the death of Taylor's father, she married to Newell Palmer soon after and had a son October 2000 and named him after her father, David. Taylor divorced soon after the birth of her son and continued college at East Central Community College working toward a nursing degree, originally wanted to be a neurologist.

At the age of 22, Taylor graduated from Meridian Community College from the registered nurse program. Immediately after graduation Taylor worked on the women's unit at a St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Taylor rotated through different units toward the end of her two years to gain much experience to eventually leave St. Dominic Hospital to travel nurse. While working at St. Dominic, Taylor married March 26, 2004 to Mark Hale in New Orleans, LA. September 1, 2004, they had a son, Nathan Hale.

June 5, 2005 Taylor and her family began the travel nursing experience. Taylor’s first assignment was for a 13 week contract in Little Rock, AR.

Multiple Sclerosis

Memorial Weekend 2006 Taylor had her first symptom of multiple sclerosis while working at a hospital in Phoenix, AZ; she woke up with her entire left leg numb and tingling. She ignored her symptoms and went on to work for her regular shift as a post-surgical nurse. Taylor was soon sent to the emergency room after her morning shift began since the numbness and tingling was spreading up her body. She was then admitted to the hospital on a telemetry unit for tests and treatment of a complicated migraine.

The month of June went well for Taylor and she moved to Gilbert, AZ to work for Banner Health in Mesa, AZ. Taylor was assigned to Mesa Hospital, but she would also work at the other three facilities in Mesa and did travel back to Phoenix for a few shifts.

July 2006, Taylor became sick again with numbness of her right left and severe migraines which her left to cancel many of her scheduled shifts. Taylor soon went downhill with her health with difficulty walking, dizziness, fatigue, migraines, numbness/tingling from the waist down. Taylor worked until she collapsed at the nurses’ station. She was taken to the emergency room by her husband, Mark Hale on August 1, 2006 and she was then diagnosed with multiple sclerosis by a MRI, Lumbar Puncture, and physical assessment were all abnormal. Multiple lesions were discovered. Taylor’s MRI was not abnormal just a few months prior to her diagnosis.

September 2006 Taylor and her family moved back to her hometown in Mississippi. “MS brought me back MS” jokes Taylor. Taylor and her family moved in with her mother, Shirley. Taylor tried time and time again to go back to work but failed until her August 2007 attempt at a facility in Meridian, where she worked for nine months until the day in April 2008 when her legs quit working while at work. Taylor was wheeled off the floor in her own wheelchair.

Mark and Taylor separated August 2008, when he left her taking both sons because of Taylor’s severe depression and nervous breakdowns from her illness. The divorce was final February 4, 2009.

April 28, 2008, Taylor was declared disabled by her physicians. Taylor finally won social security disability after three denials and one appeal with the help of her lawyer in February 16, 2010.

Writing

Taylor wrote her first book, Accidentally Awake: Tragedies beginning July 2008 when she originally wanted to write a book about her life. Taylor wrote about her father’s death January 3, 2000 and then turned her story fiction soon after the first few chapters in her book. It took Taylor eight months to write Accidentally Awake: Tragedies.

“I named my book Accidentally Awake: Tragedies because that is the way I felt, accidentally awake. It was like my life was not my own anymore. I was watching from the outside as this movie was playing and I had no control over it, my own life,” writes Taylor.

While inpatient seeking treatment for her nervous breakdown before her divorce from Mark was final, Taylor began writing poetry. Taylor says, “Writing in my journal helped me live, so did writing my feelings through my poems helped me survive through this mess of my life.”

After Taylor’s boyfriend left her, she decided not to become depressed but to write a book of 50 poems since the company which published, Accidentally Awake: Tragedies also published poetry. Taylor wrote 30 poems in one week, she finished her poems late September 2009 in which she began the book with only 11 poems in August 2009. She titled her book of actually 52 poems, From Inspirational Thoughts to the Heart’s Struggles.

Recently, Taylor has been working on a second Accidentally Awake, subtitled Loneliness. While working on her new book, she has also written and published a total of 51 poems in which she titled, Deep Emotions of Reality.

Taylor is now focusing on finishing Accidentally Awake: Loneliness. Taylor has rekindled her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Chad Case and Nathan lives primarily with his father, Mark. Taylor has full-custody of her older son, David.

Monday, Monday!

Today started off around 1:30AM, I realized the time and went back to sleep. Returned to my lovely world of much-needed sleep after the busy weekend.

What did I do this past weekend?
 - it started off very early Saturday morning with getting two boys ready to go to a MS Support group meeting, and then to a celebration of the LIFE building in Jackson, MS. Celebrate American with Disability Act... There were several people who rode bicycles from CA to Jackson, MS for the celebration.

Sunday, was less exciting, but nice. Nathan went home Sunday evening :( In a way I was very ready for a break from the boys fighting ALL WEEKEND!!

Today, I woke up late (b/c I was so tired) and missed my doctor's appointment! I was so embarrassed to call about the missed appointment :(
I have been up since 0940 this AM, and I have been writing, writing, writing...all day long. My right leg is killing me!! I guess all this writing has made my right left numb on the outside and painful on the inside. It hurts! :((
Percocet taken, PM meds taken...no, not ready for bed. I want to write a little more and finish the chapter before I sleep tonight! :)

What Day Is It?

Hotel has been home this past week on our mini-vacation. Chad, David, Nathan, and I went a few hours away from home to get a much needed get-away! We all had a great time except for the elevator breaking and leaving us to climb FOUR flights of stairs. I was so, so pitiful trying to climb up, but at least the going down was no so bad :( Regardless, we all had a great time together and away from the same scene day-after-day.

The heat did get to me a little, but I kept going anyway! I am so proud of myself :D We are still on our trip, but now closer to home. The boys had a blast, but sadly we had Nathan had to leave us Saturday, wished he could have stayed with us. We missed going to the zoo with Nathan. It was really HOT outside!!

Wow, What a Day!

Got my car washed! Finally, after months and months of being eww so NASTY, I was able to get my car detailed today, last minute decision, but a good one :) The heat was not too bad on me today and I accomplished a lot on the personal end, got car washed, went to doctor appointment, my kids got to play at my friend Amanda's house, got medications refilled, dined out with family, and..and ideas of Accidentally Awake: Loneliness :)

Had some back and leg pain, but nothing too serious today, thankfully!
